WHERE I STAND
What if the problems this town keeps facing already had answers, and they were just waiting for someone willing to act on them? I think most of them do. Every issue below comes with a fix: I want and will have a solution for every one of them, together.
GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY
TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY
What if you could watch how a decision about your street, your taxes, your neighbourhood actually gets made, before it’s already final? You can, at the Region. Too much in this town still gets decided behind closed doors or buried at the staff level, then handed to residents as a done deal. I’ll open it up: real working sessions with our community, and every vote recorded and public, the same way.
Ask yourself why decisions about your street get made before you ever hear about them.
EQUAL RULES FOR ALL
Would a resident get the same hearing as a developer with a team of lawyers? Would you get the same shot at a seat on a committee as someone connected? One set of rules, no exceptions: same process, same standard, no matter who’s asking. No insider track, no shortcuts for the connected. Equal for all means equal for all.
Ask yourself why a developer with a team of lawyers gets a different hearing than you do.
REBREAK TO REBUILD
What if this isn’t broken by accident? What if it’s built to work exactly this way? You don’t fix a system like that with a patch. I want to rebuild how this town operates, from the ground up, so it works for the people again, not around them.
Ask yourself why the same problems keep repeating no matter who’s sitting at the table.
SHORT-TERM RENTALS
What made you fall in love with NOTL: a hotel chain, or a bed-and-breakfast run by someone who actually lives here? NOTL is a bed-and-breakfast town: small, personal, quiet, part of the community. Unhosted rentals aren’t that. They’re investment properties driving up housing costs for the people who actually want to live here. I’ll bring back a real cap on unhosted rentals, with proper licensing and safety standards, and protect a genuine path for bed-and-breakfasts run by the people who live in them. People over investors.
Ask yourself why an investment property gets treated the same as someone’s home.
DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING & HERITAGE
Is every project that gets approved here actually good for this town, or just good for whoever’s building it? I’m not against development. I’m against development that skips the community to get done. Every project, done properly: in conformity with our plans, our heritage, our agriculture, and most importantly the people who live here.
Ask yourself why a project gets approved when it skips the community that has to live with it.
REGIONAL & PROVINCIAL AUTONOMY
STANDING UP FOR NOTL
Who should decide what happens on your street: the people who live on it, or a ministry an hour down the highway? Local decisions should stay local. Queen’s Park and the Region keep taking away the tools that let us protect ourselves, and there’s more coming. I’ll advocate to keep NOTL’s decisions in NOTL’s hands.
Ask yourself why Queen’s Park keeps deciding things that should be NOTL’s call.
FISCAL FAIRNESS
PEOPLE BEFORE PROCESS
Why should NOTL pay full share for services that mainly benefit everyone else? The scales need to be balanced. Before property taxes take the hit, I want every existing tool and resource used first.
Ask yourself why NOTL pays full share for services that mostly benefit everyone else.
REAL COOPERATION
When was the last time you felt like you were actually in the room, not just talking at it? Real progress happens with residents at the table, not just in front of it. I want to keep our committees strong and bring back more.
Ask yourself why residents only get in the room after the decision’s already made.
INFRASTRUCTURE & EMERGENCY READINESS
PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE
Why does it always feel like the infrastructure shows up after the growth already has? That’s not bad luck. It’s a lack of planning. NOTL needs a council that gets ahead of problems, not one that reacts after they happen.
Ask yourself why the infrastructure always shows up after the growth already has.
LOOKING AHEAD
What happens when the next big decision, like a data centre, amalgamation pressure, or the airport, lands and this town has no position ready? NOTL needs to get ahead of the big decisions, not scramble to respond after.
Ask yourself why this town still has no plan for the next big decision everyone can already see coming.
What if the problems this town keeps facing already had answers, and they were just waiting for someone willing to act on them? Now you know. This is where I stand, on all of them.
